MEET THE "CAKER"
My children and my husband are my number one fans. I judge the outcome of my cakes by my kids reactions and so far, so good. So, how did I get to where I am today?
I wish I could say I grew up baking with my grandmother or something to that nature but if I did I would be lying. To be honest, I never enjoyed baking or cooking for that matter and growing up I had one staple dessert treat I made maybe once a month...blonde brownies...and these aren't even one of the products I sell! It is for this reason I call myself a "caker" rather than a baker.
I was always very busy with friends or sports and didn't spend much time in the kitchen. I went to college not for Culinary Arts but for Elementary Education and quickly found that profession wasn't for me. Upon graduating college, I came home and landed a corporate job which I said I wouldn't be at for long...but ended up staying for 10 years!
So, again, how did I get into caking? In 2008, when my niece turned 3, I offered to make her a very special cake for her birthday that would go with her party theme. I continued to do this for her fourth and fifth birthday making just that one cake a year for her. As friends and family saw and tasted the cakes they requested cakes of their own which I was happy to make. More nieces came along which, therefore, meant more cake! I really enjoyed doing this and was learning so much with each new cake I made. Caking actually became addicting! Soon I was making cakes for family, friends, friends of friends and people I had never even met before. It turned into a side job as I worked my full time job but I quickly knew I wanted to do cakes full time.
So, in February 2013 I took the leap. I left my corporate job of 10 years and decided to give caking a go full time. I can finally say I love my job. But wait...I haven't even told you the best part about it yet. I get to work from home!
My husband and I spent a good part of 2010 putting a commercial kitchen into our home which is separate from our every day kitchen and I am licensed and insured to sell. I can literally spend hours in my kitchen without any complaint...except for when it comes time to do the dishes.
I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy putting it together. Each creation is carefully thought out and put together with love. I would love to hear from you, and even better, work with you, so drop me a note :)
